New AI photo editor allows complex changes in a few clicks

Scientists have developed a new photo editor that uses artificial intelligence to make the most complex changes with just a few clicks. With DragGAN , it is possible to create new elements in images, such as new poses of humans and animals, and add objects with a high level of precision.

The research  on the development of the program was published in the ArXiv digital collection this Friday (18) and must still undergo peer review by the scientific community. In demos released by the project owners, it is possible to see the application being used in several different types of photos.

The researchers claim that the editor is capable of creating content, like teeth inside a lion's mouth, and can deform images according to the rigidity of the object in question, like the bend in a horse's leg.

This isn't the first photo editing tool powered by artificial intelligence to hit the market. But, from a user experience point of view, the feat is innovative.

AI to talk to the dead?

Another novelty brought by artificial intelligence during the week is the bold (and, perhaps, a little macabre) proposal from the company Seance AI : talking to the dead .

AE Studio, a service that uses technology from OpenAI , owner of ChatGPT , promises to create a digital representation of the deceased and allow interactions via chatbot.

According to the service's creator, Jarren Rocks, the intention is to provide a short-term experience that offers a sense of emotional closure.

In an interview with the Futurism portal, Rocks acknowledged that, in its current state, the service is not capable of maintaining a long conversation and that repetition can be noticeable.

According to the website, the experience for some users of the product was strange. During a demo, one of the customers reported that the first messages were convincing, with approximately 80% authenticity. However, as the conversation progressed, the chatbot became repetitive, creating a feeling of emptiness.

There is still no clear information about the cost of Seance AI's service, but the company is considering a pay-per-session model to avoid excessive and irresponsible use of the tool.
